Riverbend Farm is a small homestead farm located in Baker Settlement, Nova Scotia. We purchased the property in March of 2012 after much searching for the "just right location". Situated on a high glacial drumlin nestled in a loop of the West Lahave River, our farm boasts fantastic views of the hills and river valley.
The property has long been owned by the Wentzell family, and was once part of their original homestead. We purchased 10.5 acres of gently sloping pasture, woodland and river valley. The house has been expanded and modernized from the original homestead farmhouse which we approximate to be 150 years old or slightly older. The farm consists of the century farmhouse, which is a work in progress, and several barns and outbuildings. The main barn is constructed of post and beam like many in Lunenburg County. All of the structural beams are hand-hewn timbers and fastened together with mortise and tenon joinery.
Our purpose in moving to the farm is twofold: to enjoy a cleaner, quieter, slower pace of country life, and to continue our work in the area of self-sufficient living. Welcome to our site.
